Discover the IESCO History, established in 1998 during WAPDA’s restructuring. Learn about our commitment to improving customer satisfaction, reducing line losses, and ensuring transparency and accountability in all operations.

History of IESCO

The Area Electricity Board (AEB) Islamabad was established in 1981 as part of the restructuring of WAPDA, which led to the formation of twelve corporate entities under the Power Sector Restructuring Program. This included eight Distribution and Supply Companies (DISCOs), one National Transmission and Distribution Company (NTDC), and three Generation Companies (GENCOs), all incorporated under the Companies Ordinance 1984.

IESCO was officially incorporated on April 25, 1998, with the objective of acquiring the properties, rights, and liabilities of the former Islamabad AEB. The IESCO history reflects the company’s aim to expand and enhance its business activities following the transition from WAPDA’s administrative division.
